Over 250 people from the Usher community joined together for 3 days in Mainz, Germany this month. The first 2 days of the Symposium focused on the latest Usher syndrome scientific research being undertaken across the globe.  Most of the research and clinical trials are focusing on slowing down, halting or reversing the impact of retinitis pigmentosa, the eye disease associated with Usher syndrome.   The final day of the Symposium was a patient day which included a summary of the science and a focus on the personal stories of those living with the condition. It was a day of joy and tears. Making these connections with people sharing the same journey is so important and invaluable to families in the Usher community.  A summary of the Symposium will be presented to the Australian Usher community at the UsherKids Connections Conference in Melbourne on 14th September 2018.
